Awaken

Before I committed my life to Christ, God gave me dreams that remained a mystery until after I was saved. The Holy Spirit then guided me to Scripture, helping me to understand, showing me how incredibly patient and faithful God is.

In one short but impactful dream I was staying in a hotel. At dinner time I decided to eat in the hotel’s restaurant on the sixth and top floor. I stepped into the elevator, pressed the 6 button and started going up, and kept going up, much longer than it should have taken to reach the top. When the doors opened I stepped out to see a prominent sign standing directly outside the elevator. The only thing on the sign was a very large number 141.

How in the world could I be on the 141st floor of a six-story building? I walked over to a nearby window and looked out. I was above the clouds. I could see down through them to the tops of other buildings far below. There the dream ended.

When I began investigating my dreams biblically I let God influence my searches. I still do. With this one, I kept coming back to Psalm 141. Considering my life back then, it makes sense.

Psalm 141, a psalm of David, is a cry out to God. David is distressed and in desperate need of God’s mercy. He’s weak and asks the Lord for guidance and deliverance. He wants to live for God without compromise.

Looking into any other possible meaning of 141 in Scripture, I found that the usage for the Greek verb egeiro in the King James Bible is used 141 times. That works, too.

(Ephesians 5:13-17)

But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,

“Awake, O sleeper,
and arise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
